Okay... so this was a cheapy trip. It was one of those things where the sun was starting to set earlier and we had an itch to go somewhere. So Jim went online and found those most excellent deals that they have here with the cheapo airlines.
For my American buddies... even though I say airlines... understand this is essentially a flying Grayhound bus. They herd you on and off the plane like cattle and when they say no frills... they mean no frills... be happy that safety laws require a seat!
So we looked up what was available for a penny... and found ourselves booked for trip to Alicante, Spain... then cashed in a few Marriott points and ended up in their resort in Denia, Spain about 1/2 hour from Alicante. Cheap!!!! We love cheap.
When we arrive, our flight was delayed and it was pouring rain... great... looking for sun and we now find rain. But let me tell you... God is good.... Because our flight was delayed, the car rental company ran out of cheapo cars to give out.. and because we had reserved a car and were gold members... Ready??? Out comes a loaded BMW!!! Sweet! And with the curvy roads in Spain... hmmmm.... All I can say is.. I love it when you can feel tires stick to the road when cornering a turn. Okay.... can you see my geeky "boy" engineering side coming out?
The hotel ended up being in the middle of no where... aka Denia, Spain. And I mean no where. It was because it was a resort known for having tons of golf courses and a golf academy. So when you typically go to this resort, you are staying to play golf. Oops.... Not the Katters... Just looking for sun. So being a little disappointed that we were stuck in no where with Rain in Spain that was not mainly on the plane... we hauled our disappointed selves to the room... up and down the hall we walked... where was our room.
Little did we know that our room was not one of those single door rooms... Ohh no baby... little did we realize we had a double door room. Once again... because we arrived late we got upgraded!!!! YES!
So what could have been a really sad weekend... ended up being a weekend of upgrades. What a deal!
Okay... for those of you who know us super well... yep... though we were in the middle of no where... Jim was not content to just sit at the hotel... chillout, read a good book and relax... oh no... with a BMW sitting outside and places to go... people to see... we were off and running.
Take a look...
This was taken at the tapa bar we ate at when we drove back into Alicante. Isn't it the coolest coin operated ride?
Alicante at night....
The next day... I finally convinced Jim to try out a spa. Granted all he would do is go in the hot tub and hot/cold pools, but still... an experience. Outside of our hotel in the middle of no where.
And finally before we left... the sun came out. So nothing like ending a blog entry with Jim on the beach and European men in the background with european swimsuits... Reader be warned... Do not enlarge this picture if you do not want to be frightened! Oh wait... you already saw a scary sight above.... :)
